Willem Lybaert (°21/10/1975) graduated in 2006 as a Medical Oncologist at the Catholic University of Leuven. He trained as an internist and later as a medical oncologist at the Stuivenberg Hospital in Antwerp, Imelda Bonheiden, Gasthuisberg Leuven and AZ Sint-Jan in Bruges. Since 2006 he has been working at VITAZ in Sint-Niklaas, Lokeren and Beveren (responsible for the head and neck tumor care program) and as a consultant in the multidisciplinary clinic for head and neck tumors and neuroendocrine tumors at the UZA. Since 2020, he has also been a Board Member and Secretary of the Belgian Society of Medical Oncology (BSMO), vice-chairman of the NETwerk ENETS CoE Antwerp-Waasland (neuroendocrine tumours) and since 2024 chair of the Flemish Working Group for Head and Neck Tumours (VWHHT). He also teaches oncology courses for nurses at the Karel de Grote Hogeschool in Antwerp and Artevelde Hogeschool in Ghent, and he is also a lecturer in oncology for general practitioners at the University of Ghent, he is also a lecturer in oncology for general practitioners at the University of Antwerp. He has authored or co-authored several articles in national and international journals and is a member of several national and international associations (BSMO, ESMO, ENETS, ASCO and VWHHT). He is also principal investigator of multiple international phase II and III studies for head and neck tumors in VITAZ.
